Nabisco Brands, Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
A23G 330
A23L 1236
US Classification:
426 3
Abstract:
A reduced calorie chewing gum is provided which does not decrease in viscosity upon chewing and contains less than 65% water-solubles, such as sugars and/or sugar alcohols such as sweeteners, and includes gum base containing high levels of inert fillers, such as calcium carbonate or talc in amounts of at least about 40% by weight, softeners, such as lecithin, and optionally synthetic non-caloric sweeteners, such as aspartame, saccharin, or cyclamates. The chewing gum includes at least about 10% air voids entrapped in the gum base matrix which, upon chewing, become filled with moisture causing a dramatic increase in cud volume.

Liquid-Filled Chewing Gum And Method

View page
US Patent:
43011780, Nov 17, 1981
Filed:
May 2, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/145942
Inventors:
Frank Witzel - Spring Valley NY
Wayne J. Puglia - Bellerose Village NY
K. Warren Clark - Brewster NY
Donald A. M. Mackay - Pleasantville NY
Assignee:
Life Savers, Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
A23G 330
US Classification:
426 5
Abstract:
A liquid-filled chewing gum is provided which releases relatively large amounts of liquid sweetener and/or flavor into the oral cavity. The liquid-filled chewing gum includes a solid phase and a liquid phase, the solid phase includes a gum base matrix including a network of voids or pockets laced throughout the matrix, and the liquid phase includes a liquid sweetener and/or flavor composition, such as a sweetener-flavor solution, retained in the voids or pockets, and surrounded by gum base. Upon chewing, the liquid sweetener and flavor are released into the oral cavity. A method is also provided for forming the liquid-filled chewing gum.

Tobacco-Flavored Chewing Gum

US Patent:
43178375, Mar 2, 1982
Filed:
Nov 25, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/210190
Inventors:
Gary Kehoe - Greenwich CT
Wayne J. Puglia - Bellerose Village NY
Frank Witzel - Saratoga Springs NY
Dominick R. Friello - Danbury CT
Donald A. M. Mackay - Pleasantville NY
Assignee:
Life Savers, Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
A23G 330
US Classification:
426 3
Abstract:
A tobacco-flavored chewing gum is provided which does not decrease in viscosity upon chewing inasmuch as it is preferably essentially free of water-solubles, and includes gum base containing high levels of inert fillers, such as calcium carbonate or talc in amounts of at least about 50% by weight, softeners, such as lecithin, synthetic non-caloric sweeteners, such as aspartame, saccharin or cyclamates, and tobacco flavors and/or natural tobacco. The chewing gum includes at least about 10% air voids entrapped in the gum base matrix which, upon chewing, become filled with moisture causing a dramatic increase in cud volume.

Comestible Containing Moisture And Shelf Storage Stabilized L-Aspartic Acid Derivative

View page
US Patent:
47388544, Apr 19, 1988
Filed:
May 20, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/865493
Inventors:
Dominick R. Friello - Danbury CT
John E. Beam - Norwalk CT
Wayne J. Puglia - Bayville NY
Raymond L. Roy - Danbury CT
Assignee:
Nabisco Brands, Inc. - Parsippany NJ
International Classification:
A23G 330
US Classification:
426 3
Abstract:
Comestible compositions such as chewing gum containing freely dispersed L-aspartic acid sweetening agent derivative, moisture, and optionally, a manufacturing heat history of at least 115. degree. F. , are rendered storage stable relative to the retention of recoverable levels of the L-aspartic acid derivative by adding freely dispersed hydrogenated starch hydrolysate thereto, thereby allowing for the effective use of relatively low levels of such L-aspartic acid derivative therein.

Method For Treating Gum Base To Improve Shelf-Life Without Need For Antioxidants

View page
US Patent:
43282490, May 4, 1982
Filed:
Jan 30, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/229803
Inventors:
Donald A. M. Mackay - Pleasantville NY
Wayne J. Puglia - Bellerose Village NY
Assignee:
Life Savers, Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
A23G 330
US Classification:
426 3
Abstract:
A method is provided for treating gum base to improve its resistance to oxidation without the need for antioxidants wherein air or oxygen is swept from the gum base by means of an inert gas, and the oxygen-free gum base, in particulate form, is coated with a highly oxygenated substance, such as molten sugar, sorbitol solution or hydrogenated starch hydrolysate which acts as a barrier against oxygen. The gum base produced by the above method and chewing gum containing such gum base are also provided.
